Protect yourself from Phishing or Spoofing

No. 1 How account theft occurs.
There are numerous transactions made through myTino on a daily basis and very few of them have ever ended badly. Nevertheless, it’s important for us to place emphasis on the safe use of your myTino account to help you protect yourself against the possibility of online fraud. Account theft, usually occurs when someone deciphers your password intentionally or accidentally, for example they find it on a public computer or retrieves the password from you by using a phishing email or spoof web site. Here are some guidelines to protect your account. Combined with your common sense, they will help keep you safe.

No. 2 What are PHISHING emails and SPOOF websites?
Phishing is when a scammer sends legitimate-looking emails that appear to come from websites or companies, like myTino or your bank. The emails try to “phish” for information – like usernames, passwords, credit card numbers or social security numbers. They often ask you to confirm your details or click a link and login.
Once your personal information is acquired, it is used for harmful purposes such as stealing personal funds or further phishing activities.

No. 3 How do I know that I am being spoofed?
Spoofers use email addresses and websites which may seem realistic or legitimate and can easily fool the naked eye. There is no basic layout or format that spoofers use, but there is one general characteristic common among most spoof attempts. That is, you will probably find yourself with certain doubts when you come across one of these phishing pages or emails. For example, you might ask yourself some of the following questions,
  • "Why do they want this information from me?"
  • "Should I really be revealing this information?"
  • "What exactly can they do or access with this information?"
As a rule, myTino will NOT ask for sensitive information such as your passwords or credit card numbers via email. Therefore, any email which asks for your myTino password or credit card numbers should be treated as potentially malicious.

No. 4 What should I do if I think I am being spoofed?
If you receive an email or discover a website that you think looks suspicious, DO NOT reply or give any personal information, by ignoring the request you are protecting your account from possible fraud. It is best to click on the REPORT button or forward this email or website to service.en@mytino.com and we will investigate the matter further.
